3 Days Walking Atlas Mountains from Marrakech

During the Berber Village Exploring you will spend 3 days with the Berber people of the Atlas Mountains. Your journey will start in the beautiful Imnan Valley, with its terraces and small towns set into the hillsides.

The Berber people are a very ancient people that predate the arrival of the Arabs and Islam. Their lifestyles have grown in harmony with their beautiful, but severe environment. Berber food has kept them strong for the mountains: it consists of breads, soups and barley products in the main – and only the Berbers themselves can make it. Many Berbers make their homes from pise, which is a combination of stone and mud, for their families, which tend to be large.

Before you get back to Imlil village to pick you up back again to Marrakech to have more time if you like to explore other parts of Morocco

Day 1

We picked you up very early in the morning in your Hotel / Riad / airport in Marrakech, transfer to the village of Imlil (70km), it is the place where we started the route and it is the meeting point with the staff that accompany you during the route (guide , mules, mules, cook)).

After a welcome tea and load our luggage on the mules, we start the route through the village of Imlil (1740m) and shortly after the village of Armed (2050m), as we go up, we appreciate magnificent views of several villages Berbers at the foot of the mountain in the heart of the Toubkal National Park, the typical Berber stone and adobe houses along with terraced fields form an extraordinary landscape. We pass by the saint of Sidi Chamharouch (2310m) considered the greatest of the demons, we will see some pilgrims who spend seasons there.

After a stop for the picnic, we continue our way to the Neltner refuge (3208m).

  • Dinner and overnight at the shelter.
  • Day of 4 to 5 hours of march.

At dawn we left marking a calm pace because today we ascend to more than 4000 meters, the highest peak of North Africa the Toubkal (4167m). We begin our route by a slope of about 200 meters, then by a path that rises without looking to enter the southern Iriri, then comes the glacial valley through which we won the ridge and the ridge that leads to the summit of Toubkal (between 3 and 5 hours).

From up there, we enjoyed wonderful views of the El Houz plain, the Anti Atlas to the south, we took pictures and our picnic, we went down to the shelter for lunch, free afternoon.
